Herpes Simplex 1 and 2, Genital Herpes
A viral infection causes herpes, and it is estimated that more than two-thirds of the world’s population have one form of the virus. There are two types of the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). Both types are infectious and incurable. HSV1 is typically oral herpes that causes cold sores around the face and mouth. HSV2 is typically genital herpes, and it affects the genitals and anal area of the body, but may also cause blisters and cold sores on or in the mouth.
The virus is spread through direct bodily contact and typically mouth to mouth contact. Some patients have blister or lesion outbreaks while other people experience no symptoms of the disease.
