Viscosupplementation Must Be Matched to the Joint and the Patient
Hyaluronic acid is a component of normal joint fluid. Intra-articular products are intended to supplement lubrication and may be considered for selected patients, most commonly for symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons states that hyaluronic acid injections are not recommended for routine treatment of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis, reflecting modest average benefits and variation across studies.
