Sodium bicarbonate is an established medical drug for selected forms of metabolic acidosis and other conditions requiring systemic alkalinization. That medical legitimacy does not automatically establish it as a cancer treatment—but it gives experienced clinicians clear knowledge of its chemistry, dosing and monitoring needs.

Too much bicarbonate can cause metabolic alkalosis, fluid overload and electrolyte changes. Risk is higher with kidney disease, heart failure, hypertension, edema, vomiting, certain diuretics or other acid-base disturbances.
