What this laboratory test evaluates

The Tiny Health Adult Gut Health Test is an at-home gut microbiome assessment powered by deep shotgun metagenomics which is the most comprehensive sequencing technology available for microbiome analysis.

Unlike 16S rRNA panels that identify only a narrow marker gene, shotgun metagenomics captures the full genetic landscape of the gut microbiome, providing species- and strain-level resolution across bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea, and protozoan parasites down to 0.005% relative abundance. All samples are processed in a CLIA- and CAP-certified U.S. lab, and results are benchmarked to adult-specific reference ranges for clinically meaningful comparisons.

The test delivers a comprehensive picture of microbiome composition, microbial functional capacity, and gut inflammation markers covering relative abundance of 120,000+ microbial genomes, metabolic pathway activity, gut inflammation index, and health condition signatures drawn from current peer-reviewed research. These layered insights allow practitioners to move beyond symptom management and identify specific microbial drivers of digestive, immune, and metabolic dysfunction. Personalized recommendations for diet, probiotics, prebiotics, and lifestyle are generated based on each patient's unique microbiome profile, giving practitioners a ready-made framework to build or refine clinical protocols.

This test is well-suited for adults presenting with digestive symptoms such as bloating, constipation, diarrhea, or IBS/IBD; patients with chronic conditions including autoimmune disease, eczema, or allergies where gut involvement is suspected; individuals seeking optimization of performance or preventive wellness; and patients post-antibiotic use or following significant dietary changes.

Additional test information

The Adult Gut Health Test gives you insights into the commensal and pathogenic species in the microbiome with accurate relative abundances. Shotgun metagenomics testing will give you strain-level resolution and data on the functional capacity of the microbiome from digestion to gut inflammation. This test is designed for adults.

Collection and processing

  • Sample type: Stool
  • Fasting: No
  • Estimated laboratory processing: Results should arrive 20 business days after the lab receives samples.

How Sunridge uses laboratory information

Sunridge considers the medical question, symptoms, history, medications, prior results, and whether the finding could change care before recommending testing. A laboratory result is not interpreted in isolation and does not establish a diagnosis by itself.

Before requesting this test

Availability, collection requirements, eligibility, and processing estimates can change. Sunridge reviews each request and, when appropriate, creates the order through Fullscript. Follow the current instructions supplied with the approved order.
