What this laboratory test evaluates

All Alcat tests measure innate immune cell activation following ex vivo challenges of the whole blood with foods, chemicals, and other substances. Delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions are the effect of multiple pathogenic pathways, of which the innate immune cells reflect a final common pathway. Thus, the Alcat test is a sensitive and specific marker for non-IgE-mediated hypersensitivity and toxic reactions to foods, chemicals, and other substances.

The 50 Food Panel evaluates leukocyte reactivity to 50 commonly consumed foods. This test is best for children between six months and three years old.
