Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is a hormone made by the granulosa cells of the ovaries. AMH can be used as a direct measurement of the ovarian egg reserves. Clinically AMH can be used to determine the likelihood of the ovarian chance of pregnancy and the likely response to ovarian stimulation with assisted reproductive therapies. Recently, AMH has been evaluated to diagnose polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and monitor PCOS treatments. Elevated levels are common with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Low levels of AMH are seen with poor egg reserves, premature ovarian insufficiency and menopause.
