What this laboratory test evaluates

Why Test Hormones?Each person’s hormone levels are unique, like fingerprints, and require personalized treatment. Testing major sex hormones like estradiol, estrone, estriol, progesterone, and testosterone along with adrenal hormones like DHEA and cortisol, can provide valuable information about deficiencies, excesses, and daily patterns. A personalized approach to hormone replacement therapy is much more effective than a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

Why Test Using Saliva?Most hormones in the blood are bound to carrier proteins and not bioavailable to target tissues. Saliva measures unbound bioavailable hormones, for this reason saliva testing is thought to better relate to specific symptoms of excess or deficiency. Salivary testing provides a good option for baseline assessment of hormones and to monitor hormone replacement therapies.

The Hormones Comprehensive Plus Profile provides an assessment of sex and adrenal hormones. It builds upon the Hormones Comprehensive Profile by adding an analysis of E1, E3, and the Estrogen Quotient (EQ).
