What this laboratory test evaluates
DetailsQuantitative Thyroglobulin without Thyroglobulin Antibodies – Thyroglobulin (TG) is a secretory product only of the thyroid gland. The major clinical use of serum TG measurement is to monitor, but not to diagnose, patients with well-differentiated thyroid cancers.
The measurement of thyroglobulin, after thyroidectomy and ablation of the thyroid gland, is useful to determine metastasis. Deficient TG synthesis is observed in infants with goitrous hypothyroidism.
With immunometric assays (sandwich assays), TGAB interference typically produces inappropriately low TG results, most likely caused by endogenous TG immune complexes that block one or more of the reagent Ab from binding endogenous TG.
What type of sample is required for this test?2 mL serum

How Sunridge uses laboratory information
Sunridge considers the medical question, symptoms, history, medications, prior results, and whether the finding could change care before recommending testing. A laboratory result is not interpreted in isolation and does not establish a diagnosis by itself.
Before requesting this test
Availability, collection requirements, eligibility, and processing estimates can change. Sunridge reviews each request and, when appropriate, creates the order through Fullscript. Follow the current instructions supplied with the approved order.
