VLDL Cholesterol
Quest DiagnosticsWhat this laboratory test evaluates
DetailsVLDL Cholesterol – This test measures the amount of triglycerides in the blood and calculates the level of very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C). VLDL-C is important for assessing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) like heart disease. VLDL carries cholesterol and is the main transporter of triglycerides in the blood. It's often part of a lipid profile test to evaluate overall risk for heart-related issues.
Why is this test important?Understanding VLDL-C levels helps in identifying risks for atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), coronary heart disease, and metabolic syndrome. VLDL-C contains a lot of triglycerides and, once in your bloodstream, changes into other forms of cholesterol that can contribute to heart disease.
What type of sample is required for this test?1 mL serum. A simple blood draw is needed.

How Sunridge uses laboratory information
Sunridge considers the medical question, symptoms, history, medications, prior results, and whether the finding could change care before recommending testing. A laboratory result is not interpreted in isolation and does not establish a diagnosis by itself.
Before requesting this test
Availability, collection requirements, eligibility, and processing estimates can change. Sunridge reviews each request and, when appropriate, creates the order through Fullscript. Follow the current instructions supplied with the approved order.
