Why are Tick Borne Illnesses so Difficult to Treat?

lymedisease Treatment at sunridge medicalLyme disease was initially discovered about 30 years ago in Lyme, Connecticut. Since its discovery, Lyme disease has become the most undiagnosed and untreated epidemic in the 21st century. Tick-borne illnesses have been very difficult for traditional and conventional medicine to treat. Lyme disease has been discovered in other insects such as mosquitos, blood transfusions, and even gestationally (transmitted from mother to child).

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by the spirochete (Borrelia burgdorferi) which can also mimic and has been misdiagnosed as virtually any disease including but not limited to CFS, Fibromyalgia, MS, depression, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer’s, and ALS. Lyme disease is a serious condition affecting multiple areas of the body with symptoms appearing within 1-2 weeks after being bitten.

Often characterized by the iconic “bullseye” rash, Lyme Disease is a deviation from traditional cases of infection that has confounded medical experts for years. Nevertheless, its symptoms have been known to vary tremendously with no two people presenting in an identical manner – making it difficult for even experienced physicians to diagnose correctly. Furthermore, standard testing methods used only detect Acute stages rather than Chronic ones; and thus miss over 90% of cases related to this complicated illness.

Accurate diagnosis of an infection requires a sophisticated and multi-faceted approach. Medical professionals utilize immunoassay tests to check for IgG and IgM antibodies, which are often followed up with validation via Western blot testing. Furthermore, the CDC’s criteria is employed not as a means of definitive judgement; rather it was designed only as part of epidemiological surveillance efforts.

What Makes Us Different

At Sunridge Medical, we believe in accurate diagnosis for our patients. That’s why physicians are utilizing an expanded Western blot with innovative criteria to ensure the highest level of accuracy and sensitivity when testing for tick-borne illnesses such as Lyme Disease. With this process, there is a low potential for false positives meaning you can have peace of mind that your results will be reliable and valuable should further treatments or monitoring become necessary down the line. Our tests are conducted by Igenex Labs – widely recognized as one of premier laboratories specializing exclusively on Lyme disease testing across California (and beyond). Should someone receive a positive result from their test at Igenex labs they must know that treatment options cannot solely include antibiotics because different forms – standard cell walled form, non-cell walled L Form and cyst form exist– requiring individualized intervention approaches which may involve multiple pathways than just antibiotics alone if effective relief is desired

Lyme-Disease-bugTreating Lyme Disease is a multifaceted process requiring an integrative approach. Here at Sunridge Medical, our physicians use medication to address the various forms of Lyme and bolster immune function while also using holistic alternative remedies to further enhance treatment success. Drawing upon both traditional medicine and natural alternatives can help reduce symptoms associated with this complex condition more effectively than antibiotics alone over extended periods of time.

At Sunridge Medical, you’re in good company! Patients often come to us seeking answers for mysterious health issues that can’t be explained by their doctor – from Lyme disease symptoms such as fatigue and joint pain all the way to those too strange or elusive for conventional medical practice. In many cases, a tick bite isn’t even remembered due its usually unnoticed nature; however this does not discount it being an important factor in diagnosis. Our comprehensive knowledge of infectious diseases makes us the premier choice when navigating these complex conditions with confidence.

Adriana, Florida.  Only five days into her freshmen year at university, Adriana collapsed and needed to return home. Diagnosed with Lyme Disease, she spent the next sixteen months following the conventional Lyme Disease treatment with no improvements. At her breaking point, Adriana traveled to Arizona for treatment at Sunridge Medical. She tells us it was the turning point of her recovery.

Lyme Disease Is Often Misdiagnosed as Other Chronic Disease

Lyme Disease is complicated and post-treatment lyme disease syndrome ads to the difficulty of treatment. Once the infection has had time to wreak havoc on the person’s immune system, a multitude of symptoms can be triggered. It is no wonder that patients often bounce from doctor to doctor with no relief of their symptoms after even being prescribed a huge list of medications. Lyme Disease is known as the “Great Imitator” because it can mimic so many other disease.
