Liver cancer occurs when a malignant tumor grows within the liver, which is the largest organ in the body and essential for life. It is located near the rib cage for protection in the upper part of the abdomen and performs many vital functions such as digestion, detoxification, and regulation of blood proteins. The liver also helps in countless metabolic functions as it stores and then disposes substances such as drugs, carbohydrates, protein and toxins.

There are 2 Main Types of Liver Cancer:

It was estimated that in 2005 there were approximately 17,550 new cases of liver cancer diagnosed in the United States and of that, 15,420 were predicted to die from the disease. As you can see, the five-year survival rate with this type of cancer is very low. The occurrence of liver cancer in the United States is on the rise, doubling in the last decade.

A rise in the number of Hepatitis C patients is speculated as a contributor to the increase. The largest group with liver cancer that can be helped, or even cured, with the use of aggressive local therapies are patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Appriximately 75,000 of the 150,000 people diagnosed with colorectal cancer will have a cancer that has already spread to the liver or they will present in future years with metastatic cancer to the liver. If the cancer has only spread to the liver, the prognosis is better, but still not ideal.

My dad had lymphoma and was recommended chemo and radiation. He was ok with that recommendation because he did not know of any other options. My mom and I were NOT ok with him getting chemotherapy, so we set him up with a consultation at Sunridge Medical. He started treatments at Sunridge and all of his tumors disappeared within 10 treatments. He still did additional treatments just in case, but has been in complete remission for over 5 years. He has never received any chemotherapy. This place rocks. Amazing.
